What We've Accomplished

With the support of our members, we have

  • Conserved over 4,750-acres of land through ownership or with conservation easements.
  • Protected the well-known and breath-taking view from Caterpillar Hill in Sedgwick, one of the peninsula’s most prominent and best loved landmarks, ensuring that this scenic vista will remain available for future generations to enjoy.
  • Ensured that over 1,400 acres of local farmland heralded by the USDA as the best agricultural soil in the county will remain forever available as open space farmland, protected from subdivision and residential sprawl, and maintaining habitat for wildlife and a sense of the peninsula’s rural character.
  • Provided public access and recreational opportunities in several tranquil and beautiful places enjoyed by the community, including Blue Hill Mountain (with a beautifully restored hiking trail), the wild 800-acre Kingdom Woods Conservation area, the Cooper Farm at Caterpillar Hill, and the shorefront Carter Nature Preserve.
  • Been recognized as a leader among the state’s local land trusts, including receipt of the Land Heritage Award in 1999, given annually by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust for outstanding leadership and accomplishment in land conservation in Maine.
