Bagaduce Access

Access to both shores of the Bagaduce River
In Brooksville and Sedgwick
Blue Hill Heritage Trust properties provide walk-in access to both the west and east shores of the Bagaduce River. Among other conservation values, these properties help protect horseshoe crab breeding habitat, which is rare in Maine. Of special interest is number of horseshoe crab shells scattered throughout woods of both properties.
ON THE WEST SHORE, a one-acre wooded property is bounded by a beautiful brook with moss-covered rocks. Water at shore is shallow with mud bottom, suitable only for putting in canoe or kayak (at high tide), or accessing ice in winter.
Location and Parking: The trailhead is located on the Bagaduce Rd., 1.6 miles from the intersection with the Coastal Road at Walker’s Corner or 2.4 miles from the Coastal Rd. in North Brooksville. There is a roadside pull-off to accommodate 2-3 cars and a footpath down to the river.
ON THE EAST SHORE, a 58-acre parcel is wonderfully diverse with high land along its shore and southern boundary. The inland forest is mixed and includes a brook that extends nearly the width of the property, draining a wetland at the eastern end of the property into the river. An old woods road currently accesses the river on the east shore property. The intent is to develop a trail system and parking lot in the near future.
Location and Parking: Detailed directions will be provided when trail/parking have been constructed. Contact us for more information.
